Big Pharma needs new blockbusters and has $200 billion in cash sitting on the sidelines to acquire companies with breakthrough technology. And I believe Geron's technology has the biggest breakthrough potential in medicine…even grander than RNAI.
I think we're likely to see a land grab by Big Pharma soon for the biotechnology companies doing innovative research in the stem-cell arena, and nobody's doing it better than Geron.
I see Geron potentially being bought out by one of the big players for upwards of $2 billion. I think the buyout of Sirna really rang a bell in this industry, and the message is that if you're a Big Pharma company, you need to put the stem cell and biotech brains in your pocket -- or you'll be left competing against them.

according to a survey released on Monday.Women are more likely to live paycheck to paycheck, at 47 percent, than men, at 36 percent, according to the survey conducted for CareerBuilder.com, an online job site based in Chicago. Overall, 41 percent of workers say they often or always live paycheck to paycheck, it said. Also, 41 percent of women say they do not have enough income to live comfortably, compared with 29 percent of men.
U.S. government and other research reports have found that women earn about 77 cents for every dollar earned by men for comparable work. Women are also more likely to be single parents. The new survey said 19 percent of workers who earn $100,000 or more annually often or always live paycheck to paycheck.
It found 58 percent of respondents report they set a budget each month. But one in five say they typically spend more than their budget, most often blowing it by eating out.
The survey also said one in five do not set aside any money for savings each month. Of those who do, 14 percent save $500 or more a month, 28 percent save $100 or less and 16 percent save less than $50.
It said 26 percent of women do not set aside any savings, compared with 17 percent of men.
The survey of 6,169 full-time adult workers was conducted between November 17 and December 11, 2006 by Harris Interactive and has a margin of error of plus or minus 1 percentage point.

NRDC estimates we would need about 114 million acres of land. We need to look at this another way - 73 million acres of soybeans have been planted. Why can’t we do the same with energy crops? Instead of exporting soybeans we could be reducing oil imports. In addition we have 40 million acres of CRP lands. What if we used them for energy production by growing natural prairie crops like switchgrass (more likely grass “cocktails”) on them? Between export crops and CRP lands we have more than 120 million acres in this country. We believe that a fraction of our export crop lands could more than replace all our oil imports while improving our trade balance, increasing farm incomes, improving biodiversity in the fields, and making our fuel cheaper

Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) |
 |
 |
 |
 |
AV is a world leader in the design and manufacture of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). Since the introduction of Pointer in 1986, considered by many as the first true small UAS, AV’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems have supported U.S. Armed Forces with reconnaissance data, helped monitor forest fires, and penetrated and analyzed volcanic plumes.
Evolving from Pointer, AV's Raven, Dragon Eye, Swift, Puma and Wasp solutions continue to raise the bar of expectations for what a small UAS can accomplish in the most challenging conditions.
UAS have more than proven their value in the military world. Today, UAS are utilized for applications closer to home. Whether monitoring our country's borders, protecting its citizens, monitoring pipeline and utility assets or finding those who are lost and in distress, small UAS can be launched quickly, day or night, to provide precise situational awareness.
When the need is now, Unmanned Aircraft Systems can be a valuable asset in missions to protect property and save lives. |

Let’s not forget how precious oil really is; countries are prepared to go to war for this stuff. Like an automotive engine, this economy needs oil to keep it running smoothly. Do not let your guard down when you hear gasoline prices are expected to drop a few pennies; it’s all nonsense in our view. Any drop should be viewed as temporary. Despite all the promises of alternative energy, oil will always be in demand in the foreseeable future but I say lets make Saudi Arabia the strategic reserve for USA , I say wasn't those 19 hijackers from there and upset with their country and isn't that country the biggest corrupt government in the world then lets take one division and take over the oil fields , of course to leave Mecca and Jeddah alone with their history and the respect for the pilgrims but lets take this kingdom down that possess over 100 solid gold toilets in his palaces ( ok its actually 22 karat since they told the holiness if he sits on pure 24 karat it bends ) just selling the toilets would save the starvation of few million miserable's in that shitdom but those poor individuals would not be forgotten anymore wondering in deserts or going trough the scarabs of foods and trash that pilgrims throw away , ( what a shame for a king and a prince of a country to see his friends and family members live in luxury but his countrymen in such a low life styles just to survive , yes I say lets make sure these people are no longer hungry or forgotten in the deserts and the hell with all those solid gold toilets , I say lets go and help Saudis with their shaky government , since they are not from the people or with the people with any means however about 1000 people control and distribute the wealth between themselves that needs to stand in a court and to be prosecute for crimes against humanity , yes sir , I say State should go and take over the oil fields ( not that its any different now ) but lets go and officially take them , but do not let the 1000 family members to keep a drop of that oil and take the lavish life to hell ...oh yes , lets free the 400 wife's ( hookers ) that were bought in Auctions but lets take it away from this M..F.. ers that I dislike the most , then there would be no need for the VSE , PEIX and the AVR but don't take me wrong , the point of my discussions is this , I am board and cold in this computer room and want to go home , just sell the oil stocks if you feel that its going toward the 60,s and buy Alternatives but then again start selling those VSe
shares if the oil moves toward the 50,s , Massoud,s advice of today is to stock up on those Alternatives because the driving season starts from Mid March

$33 Million Donation from Lorry Lokey Will Go Toward Stem Cell Institute Building at Stanford
(CSRwire) STANFORD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Lorry I. Lokey, the founder of Business Wire and a passionate supporter of education and science, will give a minimum of $33 million to help build a home for Stanford's Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine.
Lokey, who has given away much of his fortune to educational institutions, said he turned his attention to stem cells in 2001, after the Bush administration limited federal funding for stem cell research, discouraging the study of these potentially powerful cells.
"The important thing to me is that stem cells might not only extend life, but also improve the quality of life, as so many people suffer in their later years," said Lokey, who will turn 80 in March. "But I think stem cells will have applications across the entire life span."
Lokey's contribution to the School of Medicine - its largest single gift to date from an individual - will help launch construction of new stem cell laboratories on campus where scientists will probe the power of these elusive cells in treating conditions as diverse as cancer, stroke and diabetes. Lokey hopes the gift will be more than $33 million; the funds are being held in an account that is expected to grow in value before construction begins

Projected earnings for such companies are decreasing
Cuurent prices are still pricey
here are other plays out there without feeling you are standing beside a cliffف
Many folks still believe oil will head lower in a coming recession. As long as India, China, Japan are buying, oil prices stay buoyant. Look at China, they are not into ethanol because they have a billion mouths to feed. They go directly to Latin America & Africa & Iran & Russia, to secure deals
This is not long term play, its the road to losses
Wake up. Turning edible food into fuel

Stanford University researchers have been awarded $7 million in grants for stem-cell research in the first round of state funding for the work.
Stanford researchers won 12 grants, more than any other institution in the state.
State funding was established by 2004 when Proposition 71 was approved by the voters. The California Institute for Regenerative Medicine was established to allocate the grants. Proposition 71 will generate $3 billion over 10 years to fund stem-cell research.
The first round of grants totals $45 million over two years to 20 academic and nonprofit research centers. Stanford researchers received 12 of the initial 72 grants.
"Receiving such a large number of these grants highlights the excellence of the research taking place at Stanford," said Roel Nusse, professor of developmental biology and chair of the research subcommittee of Stanford's Program in Regenerative Medicine.
